The RSR was created for Porsche's support of customer race team entries in the American IMSA GT and European GT series.
Based on the 3.
8 Cup car, the RSR was bodied like a GT2 and included a full welded Matter roll cage, Aluminum hood, front strut brace, fully ball-jointed suspension, lighter glass, lightweight composite material for front and rear bumper fascias, steel engine cover, fiberglass adjustable rear wing, racing seat with six-point Sabelt harness belt, Porsche Momo 350mm steering wheel, battery switch and a hand fire extinguisher.
Further enhancements included adjustable Bilstein shocks, 25mm fender flares, larger ventilated brake discs, driver adjustable roll bar, among many other upgrades, and of course the M64/75 RSR engine and G50/34 gearbox.

8 RSR engine was extensively reworked with stronger, lighter valve gear, rockers, high lift cams and special pistons & barrels.
The inlet plenum and exhaust manifolds were also thoroughly revised and mated to six individual throttle bodies.
Power was delivered through a single-mass flywheel to the six-speed manual gearbox unique to the RSR.
The car generated 350 bhp at 6,900 rpm accelerating from 0-60 mph in 4.
2 seconds and a top speed in excess of 175mph.
This RSR was ordered directly from Porsche Motorsports in Weissach, Germany in January 1997 by its first owner, Takashi Yasunaga of Japan.
He originally intended to campaign the car in the Zen Nihon GT championship, but with a change of priorities, the car was never professionally raced, only lightly used during Porsche club events in Japan at Suzuka and Fuji.
The RSR was sold to its next collector owner in 2017 in Ascot, England.
Following in its first owner's footsteps, the RSR was never raced and kept in a collection with occasional club day use.
Subsequently sold, its previous owner had the RSR shipped to the USA.
This RSR has been authenticated and documented by none other than, previous Porsche race team manager and Le Mans winning driver, Jurgen Barth.
