LI Taste NY Market Lead Sales Clerk - Dix Hills, NY

The LI TNY Market Lead Sales Clerk supports the Long Island Taste NY Marketplace and Farmers? Markets and related activities. Primary responsibilities include inventory management, utilization of Fishbowl inventory software and SalesPoint Point of Sale (POS) software, assisting LI TNY Market Manager with staff scheduling, training of newly hired Sales Clerks, assisting with purchasing and concession inventory, maintaining cash banks with LI TNY Market Manager and Assistant Manager, operation of cash register, cash controls, transportation of inventory to the store, customer service, food service and record keeping. Market Lead Sales Clerk must be able to perform all duties of Sales Clerks. The Market Lead Sales Clerk is expected to discuss Long Island agriculture and local foods with customers to engage them in these areas and to provide information upon request about the food and farm products sold in the store. Lead Clerk must follow health safety and sanitation guidelines for all products. Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating environment and customers for cues. Inspect the store for cleanliness and organization as needed. Lead Clerk must possess the ability to communicate effectively with managers and co-workers. Must be able to follow and create already developed coffee recipes. Must have the ability to recommend daily coffee choices to the customer from the menu list.
Required Qualifications:
Associates Degree or High School Diploma/GED and one year of relevant experience.
2 years retail sales experience.
Ability to complete basic math in a fast paced environment.
Ability to work with the public.
Attention to detail.
Ability to operate or learn to operate a cash register.
Ability to learn and use Fishbowl Inventory
Ability to learn and use Point of Sale System.
Ability to manage sales clerk staff.
Ability to purchase concession items, consumables and janitorial goods.
Ability to use or learn to use MS Word and excel.
Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
Microsoft Office proficiency (especially excel).
Experience working in customer service and retail environments.
Understanding of basic marketing.
Financial accounting and order tracking.
Ability to handle multiple tasks.
Proficiency with internet based communications.
Knowledge of the organization, operation, philosophy and objectives of Cooperative Extension.
Knowledge of agriculture and agricultural practices.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Direction - 5%
Provide input to assist LI Market Manager with planning for scheduling, training and inventory.
Management - 5%
Provide training and assign duties to Sales Clerk staff.
Coordination/Operation -85%
Customer service ? greets, assists and serves the needs of store customers.
Store inspection, organization and recordkeeping. Must assist in maintaining a clean facility.
Replenishment of store supplies and inventory. Track product inventory.
Cash Controls and Cash Bank ? follow all procedures for cash controls and assist Market Manager and Assistant LI TNY Market Manager with cash bank.
Receive and log scheduled deliveries.
Prepare purchase orders for concession, consumable and janitorial items.
Assist with mass media efforts such as Facebook and Twitter.
Assist with promotion of agri-tourism on Long Island.
Work with vendors to learn about their products and train sales clerks about those products.
Promote local farms, produce, food and products displayed to customers.
Maintain equipment (such as, cash registers, coffee and espresso makers), troubleshoot if necessary and call for repair as directed.

In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
